AVM: Almost all Fritzboxes now have FritzOS 8

At the end of the year, many AVM devices will receive the latest FritzOS 8, including the Fritzsmart Gateway.

AVM now provides the latest FritzOS 8 for most Fritzboxes. In the past few days and weeks, a few more models have been added. The following are now supplied:

Fiber + DSL: 5690 Pro
DSL: 7690, 7590 (AX), 7583 (VDSL), 7530 (AX), 7520, 7510
Fiber: 5590 Fiber, 5530 Fiber
Cable: 6690 Cable, 6670 Cable, 6660 Cable, 6591 Cable
Mobile radio: 6850 5G, 6850 LTE
Without modem: 4040
Smart Home Bridge: Fritzsmart Gateway

Occasionally, AVM also distributes the FritzOS update 8.0.1 instead of 8.0. This version contains model-specific bug fixes: After failed firmware downloads, for example, updates should be requested correctly again. The manufacturer has also fixed some compatibility problems, for example with Asus' 10 Gigabit network card XG-C100C.

FritzOS 8 is now only missing from the Fritzboxes 4050, 4060, 6890 LTE and 6820 LTE –, at least according to the models that AVM still considers to be up-to-date.

Updates can be initiated as usual via the web interface under http://fritz.box or by default http://192.168.178.1. Alternatively, AVM provides all images via a download server.

New features in FritzOS 8

FritzOS 8 brings new overview pages to the web interface, including a graphical display of the connected clients and their connection load. From there, you can prioritize individual devices whose Internet packets are given priority by the Fritzbox. The device names can be edited directly in the Mesh overview, now also in the guest network in addition to the home network.

Wireguard VPN tunnels now also transport IPv6 packets. Previously, such tunnels could already be set up using IPv6 as the transport protocol, which is useful for users on TV cable or fiber optic Internet connections with DS-Lite or CG-NAT, for example. However, only IPv4 traffic ran between the VPN endpoints within the tunnel.
