The eight-core Ryzen7 9800X3D will be followed by the two more expensive models Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D with 16 and 12 Zen 5 cores respectively. The announcement will be made at the CES 2025 tech trade fair, with AMD taking the same approach as with the 7000 series: Only one of the two CPU chiplets gets the additional stack cache (called 3D V-Cache).

The X3D chiplet with a total of 96 MByte Level 3 cache should therefore deliver the highest frame rates in most games. The second chiplet continues to maximize the clock frequencies in order to deliver a little more performance, especially in applications. In the case of the top model Ryzen 9 9950X3D, AMD states a maximum boost of 5.7 GHz. AMD does not specify the clock frequencies of the X3D chiplet.

The Ryzen 9 9900X3D has to make do with 5.5 GHz, but also has a more reasonable Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 120 instead of 170 watts.

AMD is launching a single X3D processor for high-end notebooks: the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D with 16 CPU cores, also a single cache chiplet and a maximum boost of 5.4 GHz. The two equally new HX processors Ryzen 9 9955HX and Ryzen 9 9850HX do not require a stack cache.

They use 16 and 12 Zen 5 cores respectively – unlike the Ryzen AI 300, there are no slimmed-down Zen 5c cores. Instead, the integrated AI unit is missing. With a TDP of 54 watts, the HX processors are primarily intended for workstations.

The two desktop models are to be released in the course of the first quarter. AMD is roughly forecasting the notebook processors for the first half of 2025. AMD is not specifying prices.

In the case of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, AMD has not been able to keep up with demand since its market launch in November 2024. The prices are far above the recommended retail price (starting from 439 €). Unless AMD gets demand under control in a timely manner, new price recommendations for the Ryzen 9 9000X3D would have little meaning anyway.
