AMD pits Radeon RX 9070 (XT) against Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4070 (Ti)
A first look at AMD's new graphics cards with RDNA-4 architecture. The fastest model is called Radeon RX 9070 XT.

No concrete presentation yet, but at least a first preview: AMD unveils the first details of the new generation of graphics cards at the CES 2025 tech trade fair, including a new naming scheme. The first two models are called Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070 and should be available by the end of March 2025.
The 8000 nomenclature is thus reserved for the integrated RDNA 3.5 graphics units of the Ryzen processors. By changing the number – 9070 instead of 9700 –, AMD wants to make the counterparts to Nvidia's GeForce graphics cards clearer.
In a graphic, AMD places the 9070 series at the same level as the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and GeForce RTX 4070 Super, alongside its own Radeon RX 7900 XT. At market launch, the new graphics cards are likely to compete with the upcoming GeForce RTX 5070 at best. A 9060 series also contains the graphics; it will therefore follow later.
AMD will not be launching high-end graphics cards for the time being. Accordingly, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX remains the fastest in-house model in the overview.

4 nm and FSR4 on board
There are not many details as yet. AMD confirms that the GPU is manufactured monolithically in a 4-nanometer process – presumably again by the chip contract manufacturer TSMC. Just like the graphics unit in the Playstation 5 Pro, the RDNA4 compute units should be able to render ray tracing graphics effects faster. AMD has not yet said how many shader cores there are.

FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 4 will have an AI upscaler similar to Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and Intel's Xe Super Sampling (XeSS). An AI model is used to determine how the graphics should look in high resolution in order to upscale a lower render resolution. Previously, FSR calculated successive images (Temporal Anti-Aliasing) and sharpened them to improve image quality.
According to AMD, FSR4 is optimized for RDNA 4 – which indicates a Radeon 9000 exclusivity.
