Video streaming: Paramount+ prepares to change its subscription model

German users of Paramount+ are currently receiving an email informing them that the subscription video streaming service has changed its terms of use. If you take a closer look at the relevant passages, you will come to the conclusion that the service will soon be changing its tariff structure. This step had already been announced in the past and should have been completed by now.

Specifically, section 4 of the terms of use now refers to different types of subscriptions. Currently, there is only one tariff to book for 7.99 euros per month. Section 4.1 shows that there will also be subscriptions with advertising in addition to the previous ad-free subscription. The new terms of use also stipulate that a different number of streams can be accessed in parallel, depending on the tariff (section 7.3). However, the company does not provide any specific figures.

Above all, however, Paramount+ is likely to offer different picture and sound quality levels in the future. So far, the offer has been limited to an HD picture and 5.1 sound at best, with the German language versions only available in stereo. In the USA, there have also long been tariffs with 4K resolution/Dolby Vision and 3D sound in Dolby Atmos format. However, there are no direct statements on this in the new terms of use either.

Fortunately, we were also unable to find any indication that the service intends to check that its service is only used in one household in the future. According to Paramount+, the changes will come into force 6  weeks after the date of the notification – January 7, 2025 –. The new tariffs could therefore start at the end of February.
