The new year of Images of the Day begins with a colorful mix of shots of nature and landscape with human elements: Horse racing on the beach, dramatic storm clouds, ships surrounded by impressive mountain backdrops and tiny glistening snowflakes on woolen socks.
Season end

The bathing season is over, which is clearly noticeable from the almost deserted beach. The vintage colors give the shot a touch of the past and nostalgia. MixMax_14 captures the end of the season – Season end – perfectly.
Run Baby Run
(Image:Â 54gradpixel)
A photo of a horse race on the beach in Sanlúcar de Barrameda Cádiz. "Actually, it's just a snapshot with luck," writes 54gradpixel. "The horse seems to be flying right in front of me, all hooves in the air. But it's precisely these moments that make photography exciting for me." The horse radiates power and elegance – Run Baby Run.
Thunderstorm atmosphere

The mountain range photographed by muscipulaa is illuminated by the last golden rays of the sun, while pitch-black clouds cover the sky in the foreground. The first rain is already pelting down in the middle. The stormy atmosphere is particularly dramatic due to the contrast in color.
So tiny and yet so beautiful...
(Image:Â trenka_f)
"So tiny and yet so beautiful..." thinks trenka_f (alias Ferenc Trenka) when he sees a small snowflake on his freshly washed alpaca socks on the clothes horse in winter. "Since I had a new 100 mm macro lens to call my own at the time, I took the opportunity to test it out. It was as simple as that."
Riverbank
(Image:Â Reiner von der Schlei)
This analog image of a riverbank was taken in 1984. It is a 35mm slide and was exposed with a Konica Autoreflex on Ektachrome film. It was shot by Reiner von der Schlei (alias Reiner Weber) on the Hamme near Worpswede in Teufelsmoor. "Back then, nothing was left to chance, and the focus was on the ripples in the water caused by a boat passing by just before sunset."
Under the sea - in an octopus's garden
(Image:Â Banshee66)
Countless fish swim around the wreck in the large seawater pool at the Ozeaneum in Stralsund. "Due to the position and the elimination of reflections, it looks as if you are diving under the wreck," explains Banshee66 (alias Oliver von Bohlen) about his picture Under the sea - in an Octopus's garden.

In the fjord
(Image:Â Pham Nuwem)
Pham Nuwem observes a single ship in the fjord, which appears tiny compared to the surrounding landscape. The black and white filter makes the image all the more dramatic, highlighting the shimmering light on the surface of the water and the freighter. Snow-covered mountains shrouded in darkness dominate the background.
