Autonomous teams are often seen as the holy grail of software development. They promise more productivity, better results and happier employees. However, autonomy comes with challenges: it requires trust, the ability to delegate responsibility and teams that are willing to take on this responsibility.
In addition, too much autonomy and a lack of guardrails can lead to chaos and loss of control. This episode of Eberhard Wolff's video cast software-architektur.tv looks at the psychological, organizational and architectural aspects of autonomy and shows why it is often harder to achieve in practice than it seems.

software-architektur.tv is a video cast by Eberhard Wolff, blogger and podcaster on iX and well-known software architect who works as Head of Architecture at SWAGLab. Since June 2020, over 200 episodes have been produced, highlighting different areas of software architecture – sometimes with guests, sometimes Wolff solo. For over two years now, iX (heise Developer) has been integrating the episodes streamed via YouTube into the online channel so that viewers can follow the video cast from within Heise Medien.
