In this week's pictures, the photographers create motifs with abstract waves, lonely mountain landscapes and nature that reclaims everything.

Our gallery photographers have a colorful selection of motifs for us again this week: While the snow gently trickles down an alley, elsewhere a flower breaks through the gray asphalt.

Silent Stroll

(Image: Underhill)

This view along Marburg's Oberstadtgasse with its half-timbered houses is almost magical. The falling snow, the processing, which shifts the dark colors of the old town houses slightly towards green, and the golden lettering of the sign make the picture look particularly Christmassy. This moment – Silent Stroll, taken by Underhill, appears still and quiet.

Moody

Winter is mating season for snow leopards. The frontal shot of Nephentes Phinena shows the irritated,"moody" animal. "It's a crazy spectacle when the two big cats play and romp with each other, fight a little, then groom again, play again... The photos are hard to take – through a fence, or through a slightly scratched pane of glass."

small waves

In the abstract black and white image of the water, the viewer recognizes various small waves. Various shapes can also be discovered. It remains exciting to see how many different ways nature can be captured. Metapix gives you the opportunity to let your imagination run wild.

10. corridor

(Image: Karsten Gieselmann)

This architectural photograph is one of many such special stairwells in Hamburg. The Kontorhäuser and the magnificent and dignified staircases built into them are a true paradise for lovers of this world of motifs. In 2018, Karsten Gieselmann discovered the 10th corridor, whose spiral staircase banister draws the eye downwards. "Playing with shapes and colors in graphic compositions is always a new challenge for every staircase and an opportunity to create something special."

Three peaks

(Image: holysh0t)

A picture that combines tranquillity and movement in one. The Three Peaks tower over the landscape, while the meltwater flows gently down in the foreground. The cold air is almost palpable due to the cool colors, but is balanced by the warm rays of sunshine on the mountain. Holysh0t captures an impressive landscape through perspective.

Concrete poppy

(Image: NAlois)

On an evening walk along the Mangfall, NAlois (alias Alois Nagl) discovers this survivor on the new bridge of the Rosenheim western bypass. "The poppy was growing out of a crack in the paving in front of the concrete, hence the title Concrete Poppy," he recalls. "I edited the picture in Lightroom and cropped it as a square because that puts the poppy more in the center."

St. Catherine's Palace (GI door and gate)

(Image: RüdigerLinse)

The open doors of St. Catherine 's Palace (GI door and gate) gleam magnificent and golden in front of RĂĽdigerLinse. The palace in St. Petersburg looks magnificent due to the colors and the shine and the staggering and perspective give the room and the picture a suction effect.
