Microsoft initiated the automatic update of computers that are suitable for Windows 11 24H2 at the end of last week. Before that, however, the developers fixed further problems with the update, for which an update blockade was set up due to incompatibilities.

In the Windows Release Health notes for Windows 11 24H2, Microsoft points this out in a notification box. "We have reached a new stage in the phased rollout of version 24H2," the developers wrote on Thursday last week. "Eligible devices running Home and Pro versions of Windows 11 23H2 and 22H2 will be gradually updated to version 24H2. The automatic update only targets devices that are not managed by an IT department. Users can select the restart time or "delay" the update. Under "Windows Update" in the settings, interested parties who can no longer wait for the update should check whether it is available for them.
Stopper bugs for 24H2 update
In mid-November, Microsoft acknowledged problems with the Windows 11 24H2 update, which affected some Ubisoft games in particular. In addition to three "Assassin's Creed" games, these included "Star Wars Outlaws" and "Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora". Using the Safeguard IDs 54437462 and 54437462 54437462, Microsoft blocked the update on systems with the games. In December, hotfix updates for "Star Wars Outlaws" and "Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora" from Ubisoft resolved the problems with the two games and the Safeguard ID 54580160 was removed.

At the weekend, Microsoft has now reported the game problems in general as resolved. "'Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, Origins and Valhalla' are no longer affected by the issue as Ubisoft has released fixes for them. These updates resolve the compatibility issues with Windows 11 24H2, and ensure that players can enjoy these games without disruption. The Safeguard ID 54437462, which was previously in effect, was removed on January 16, 2025," Microsoft now writes in the bug report. It can take up to 48 hours for the changes to take effect, the developers write, but the period should have expired by now.
