Microsoft shows new gameplay from "Doom: The Dark Ages"

id Software has released new gameplay scenes from the upcoming shooter "Doom Eternal". The video shows game scenes accompanied by comments from the developers. The Microsoft studio describes "Doom: The Dark Ages" as the team's most ambitious project to date.

In "Doom: The Dark Ages", the Doom Guy is transported to a fantasy version of the Middle Ages. The shooter follows on from 'Doom Eternal', which was launched in 2020 as the successor to 'Doom' (2016). "The Dark Ages" is set to tell the origin story of the Doom Slayer.

The new 'Doom' game will continue the gameplay tradition of the two previous modern parts: Brutal shooter action will once again take center stage. Overall, the game will play a little less dynamically than its two predecessors, but the medieval Doom Guy will feel even more robust, the developers explain.

A chainsaw shield therefore takes the place of a chainsaw. This not only allows you to attack, but also to parry enemy attacks and fire back. The shield is also used for movement. The Doom Guy also gets melee weapons to take on fantasy beasts. A morning star, an electrified bracer and a mace can be seen prominently in the video.
Despite the medieval scenario, the Doom Slayer doesn't have to do without shotguns and the like. From time to time, players can even climb into a mech to cause chaos among hell demons. And: A mechanical dragon is also waiting to be flown through certain story sections. Even underwater sections can be seen in the video. Players can also unlock additional abilities as they progress through the game.
"Doom: The Dark Ages" will be released on May 15 for Xbox Series X/S, PC and Playstation 5. The shooter will be part of the Game Pass game subscription immediately upon release.
