Deep Robotics' robot dog Lynx drives and runs acrobatically through any terrain

Lynx the robot dog can get through almost any terrain on different surfaces –, even on snow. This also works on less than four legs.

The Chinese robotics company Deep Robotics has once again significantly improved the mobility of its four-legged, wheeled robot dog Lynx. Lynx can now move on even more surfaces in difficult terrain – also on three and two legs or one leg.

Lynx achieves its flexibility in terms of mobility by having wheels instead of feet, which can be locked individually. Wherever the robot can roll with wheels faster than it can walk, it uses this form of locomotion. In very difficult terrain that cannot be negotiated with wheels, it locks the wheels and uses them like feet. Climbing is also possible. It can easily walk or roll up steps of up to 22 cm and overcome obstacles up to 80 cm high. It rolls and runs up and down slopes of up to 45 degrees.

The robot can also combine the possible modes of locomotion. It decides autonomously which is the right one using its intelligent motion control algorithms, which give it this adaptability.

The surfaces Lynx can tackle are varied: from simple forest paths to gravel, mud and snow, the robot dog can get through almost anywhere. He also develops acrobatic skills, including somersaults. It masters individual sections on three and two legs or even on just one leg.

Lynx is also able to recognize and react to dangerous situations. For example, it can detect spontaneously appearing obstacles and avoid or run around them.

The robot dog is protected to protection class IP54, meaning it can withstand dust and heavy splashes of water without being damaged. The robot is equipped with a replaceable battery, which should keep it alive for around 3 hours.

However, Lynx can not only simply romp through the terrain, but can also take on other tasks. For example, it can be used in emergency rescue, fire detection and for reconnaissance tasks in unsafe, inaccessible and dangerous areas or in area security for surveillance.

Deep Robotics offers Lynx at a price of 17,999 US dollars.
