Microsoft's video editing and composing software Clipchamp is to be integrated into Microsoft 365 Copilot. There it will be used to automatically create video content and scripts with prompts for artificial intelligence.
This can be seen in the Microsoft 365 roadmap for Clipchamp, which received updated entries on Thursday. In December, Microsoft initially announced that the "Clipchamp Copilot Video Creator" would be released as a preview from January this year, with general availability scheduled for February.
Prompt-driven video creation
Microsoft describes the function: "Create a video on any topic with a prompt. Clipchamp creates a video using stock video and music with an AI-generated voiceover track on the topic". The now updated roadmap entry is more specific: "Clipchamp brings video creation features to Copilot's Visual Creator. Enter a prompt and Clipchamp will create a customized script, source high-quality stock video footage and turn it into a video project with voiceover track, music, text overlays and transitions". The draft video project can be opened in Clipchamp and further edited, exported and finally shared.

Microsoft sees information videos, video messages, how-to instructions, demonstrations and video presentations as possible applications. The Clipchamp Copilot Video Creator will be available on all cloud instances worldwide. It is therefore intended for business customers in particular.
In mid-December, Microsoft published a blog post explaining how AI prompts can be used to quickly create video scripts (screenplays) and texts for the voice-over track. In addition, Clipchamp already has some AI functions – another blog post explains how end users can use them.
The first useful AI functions were added to Clipchamp around the beginning of last year. Microsoft's developers added a function for automatically recognizing and cutting out long silences in video clips. A few weeks earlier, they also added a function for automated subtitle creation.
