Chains instead of tires, a headlight battery on the roof and a drone: the South Korean automotive group Hyundai has presented the concept of an electric vehicle for mountain rescue.

GV60 Mountain Intervention Vehicle (MIV) is the name of the vehicle presented by Hyundai's luxury brand Genesis at the World Economic Forum in Davos. It is based on the GV60 SUV coupé and has been modified for use in the mountains.

The most striking change is the four snow chains, which replace the wheels and also provide the necessary traction in snow and on slopes. As they are wider than the conventional tires, the wheel arches have been widened with carbon components.

A luggage rack is mounted on the roof, on which equipment can be transported. At its front end is a wide headlight bar to illuminate the area in front of the vehicle or the scene of an accident, for example.

Instead of the conventional front seats of the road version, the MIV has sports seats, which are designed to provide more support for both occupants. There is no rear seat so that there is more space for the medical and rescue equipment. This includes a drone to search for casualties from the air.

Finally, the equipment also includes communication and navigation systems for special operations. The vehicle has a vehicle-to-load system (V2L), which can be used to supply external consumers with 230-volt power.

The GV60 SUV coupé is based on Hyundai's Electric-Global Modular Platform (e-GMP), on which several other models from the South Korean company are also based, including the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Genesis offers den GV60 with three different drive variants: with a 168-kilowatt rear-wheel drive or with an all-wheel drive with 234 or 360 kilowatts.

The manufacturer equips all variants with a 77.4-kilowatt-hour battery: Thanks to the 800-volt architecture, this charges from 10 to 80 percent capacity in 18 minutes.

The GV60 MIV is the third concept model that Genesis is presenting in Davos.
