iOS 18.3 release: Apple releases update for iPhones & Co
The latest updates for iPhones, iPads and Macs bring manageable innovations. There is one fundamental change to Apple Intelligence.

Apple released iOS 18.3 for download on Monday evening – along with iPadOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3. As usual, the latest operating system versions can be downloaded to devices via the integrated software update. After iOS 18.1 and 18.2 delivered many new features, the third major update for iOS 18 has little new to offer. For iPhone and iPad users in the EU, there is only another wallpaper for Black History Month. One function also returns: if you press the plus button again, Apple's calculator app repeats the last calculation operation.
Apple Intelligence now opt-out
With iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3, Apple is also making Apple Intelligence a part of the operating system that is activated by default. The AI models are therefore loaded automatically and the entire AI system is now opt-out instead of opt-in, as Apple recently announced. Users who do not want to use Apple AI at all must therefore deactivate Apple Intelligence at a later date. The AI system is currently only available on Macs in the EU and only if the operating system is used in English. Apple Intelligence can be activated on iPhones and iPads in a roundabout way.
In the EU, Apple plans to deliver the system in April with iOS 18.4, possibly with the previously missing support for German.
On devices with Apple Intelligence, iOS 18.3 & Co will also make an important change to the summary of messages: Following complaints from the BBC about distorted headlines, these have been deactivated for the time being for the app categories "News" and "Entertainment". For other notifications, Apple now displays the AI summary in italics.

Updates also for macOS, watchOS & Co.
Owners of an iPhone 16 receive new functions for "visual intelligence", which can be activated via the camera control: This now allows calendar entries to be created when the camera is pointed at a poster. It should also be easy to identify animals and plants. According to Apple, the keyboard should appear reliably again when "Type to Siri" is activated. On Macs with macOS 15.3 and Apple Intelligence, users can now generate new emojis ("Genmojis") themselves using a text command.
Alongside the larger operating systems, Apple has also released watchOS 11.3, tvOS 18.3 and a new software version for HomePods. The manufacturer has left open what new features the update for Apple Watches will bring. At least a new watch face will be delivered for Black History Month. As usual, the updates are likely to eliminate several security vulnerabilities; no details were available at the time of going to press.
