“This is going to be a really big year”, enthuses Meta-Platforms boss Mark Zuckerberg. “This is going to be a really big year.” By the end of 2024, 3.3 billion people will be using at least one Meta service every day. In the future, Meta will operate the leading AI assistant, one of the “most transformative products” with some “fun surprises”.
Zuckerberg also scatters roses for Donald Trump: “This will also be a big year for redefining our relationships with governments. We now have a US government that is proud of our leading companies, prioritizes American technology and will defend our values and interests abroad,” the manager read out on Wednesday evening during the announcement of the latest quarterly figures, “I'm optimistic about the progress and innovation this will unleash.”

The next version of the in-house AI model, Llama 4, is already in training and is intended to take the lead. “Llama 4 will be natively multimodal”, i.e., it will inherently process different media types such as text, sound, still and moving images together. It is also “agentic”. This means that it works more independently, requires fewer human calls, and is better at guessing what the user wants and what the AI operator wants to present to the user. Details will be available “in a few months”.
Mark makes your own AI bubble
According to Zuckerberg, Meta AI had 700 million users last December. In the future, the service will monitor what users do on Facebook and Instagram. The language model will also memorize dialogues with users. Meta's AI will use this data to calculate personalized responses. “We don't believe that people all want to use the same AI,” Zuckerberg stated, “People want their AI to be personalized to their context, their interests, their personality, their culture, and how they think about the world.”
Economically, Meta is unwaveringly pursuing the advertising business model. Meanwhile, AI is also optimizing which advertisements users see. Financially, this is going like clockwork. Both Meta's revenue and margin continued to rise in the fourth quarter of 2024 without triggering higher taxes. This is paying off for the data company.
