The DSL Fritzbox 7490 is receiving a firmware update to version 7.60. This is the third update of the now almost 12-year-old Wi-Fi router since 2023: Back then, the model received FritzOS 7.56, followed by version 7.59 in summer 2024 with a few bug fixes.
FritzOS 7.60 is in a similar vein. AVM mentions three points in an overview: Interoperability with internet providers is said to have been improved. No elements or pages should disappear in the web interface at https://fritz.box/ and Wi-Fi should run more stable – AVM does not provide details.

No FritzOS 8
Meanwhile, the Fritzbox 7490 will not receive the new FritzOS 8 functions. Since 2023, the router has been able to handle VPN tunnels via WireGuard, but without IPv6 data traffic between the VPN endpoints. The new overview pages, including a graphical display of the connected clients and their connection load, and new smart home routines are also missing.
Nevertheless, all updates for old hardware such as the Fritzbox 7490 are welcome. As always, the update can be initiated via the web interface. Alternatively, AVM offers the image via its download server.
