Apple Intelligence speaks German from April – and may enter the EU
Apple wants to significantly expand the voice support of Apple Intelligence soon. According to Tim Cook, the AI functions are helping to drive iPhone sales.

Apple Intelligence will soon also work in German: in April, the manufacturer will deliver extended language support, as Apple CEO Tim Cook announced to financial analysts. Until now, Apple AI has only worked in English – with an English operating system and English-language content.
In addition to German and English, Apple Intelligence will also be able to handle Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese (simplified) and Korean. Apple already announced the extended language support for 2025 in the fall of last year, but has so far left open which languages will be included in April.
Apple Intelligence coming to iPhones in the EU
Apple Intelligence will also be available on iPhones and iPads in Germany and the rest of the EU from April, as Apple announced in October. This is expected to happen with the release of iOS 18.4. Currently, the AI functions integrated into the operating system can only be used on newer Macs in English in EU member states. Unlike iOS and iPadOS, macOS is not subject to the new EU rules of the Digital Markets Act. Apple had blamed the delayed launch on "regulatory uncertainties".
Activation of Apple Intelligence on iPhone and iPad is therefore currently only possible with a workaround - and side effects. In supported countries, Apple Intelligence has been activated by default for the first time since the latest iOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3 updates.

AI as a sales argument
In the conference call following the announcement of Apple's latest business figures, Cook emphasized the importance of AI integration for the company: In markets where Apple Intelligence is already available, demand for the iPhone 16 models has also been higher, according to the Apple boss. Users would use practically all AI functions, including text and image generation, photo analysis and the cleanup tool for removing distracting elements in photos. The debate about false Apple Intelligence summaries of news headlines was not mentioned.
According to Cook, over 2.35 billion Apple devices are now in active use worldwide. Apple Intelligence only supports a fraction of these so far, and the manufacturer did not provide specific figures. For iPhones, the AI only runs on the 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max and the latest 16 series. For Macs and iPads, all models with an M-Chip are supported.
