The Japanese telecommunications provider Softbank wants to revolutionize the world of work with OpenAI and expects an AGI soon.
Bringing coffee automatically when needed would also be a nice task for AI agents.

Artificial General Intelligence is coming very soon – in the opinion of Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son, sooner than in two or three years. However, this belief might also be based on a new understanding of AGI, namely that of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. The two companies are not only cooperating on the Stargate project. They have now also announced Cristal intelligence – an AI system including AI agents that will revolutionize the entire world of work. Of course, that's as good as it gets.
According to the blog post, Cristal intelligence is an “advanced enterprise AI”, i.e., an AI working environment. It can be created individually for each company. Softbank is investing three billion US dollars a year in the development and integration into its divisions. In addition, the existing OpenAI tools will also be made available to employees, specifically ChatGPT Enterprise.
Softbank's dreams of AI
Almost needless to say, what Softbank expects from the integration. AI is supposed to take over the daily routine tasks, as AI companies often explain, so that employees can concentrate on strategic and creative processes. Every employee should become more effective and be able to solve more complex problems thanks to AI agents. The Softbank companies ARM and Softbank Corp. in Japan are apparently the first to make the switch. According to Softbank, Arm's computing platform offers the “performance, efficiency and scalability required to support the increasing computing requirements of AI agents”.

To get the whole thing off the ground, the two companies have founded a joint venture called SB OpenAI Japan. Together, they are also driving the Stargate project, a 500 billion US dollar AI infrastructure in Texas that will only benefit OpenAI.
When introducing the partnership, Softbank's Son is reported to have said that he expects an AGI much sooner than he had previously assumed. Previously, however, he had expected it in two or three years. This is certainly also due to a changed understanding of what an AGI actually is. Sam Altman said in an interview in December that AGI will be much less significant than most people think. AGI is also not such a big security risk, the world will continue to turn as normal.
OpenAI was originally founded to develop an AGI that would change the whole world.
