Sonos is working on its streaming box for TVs. This was reported by the US technology magazine The Verge. According to the report, the Android-based streaming box will have an interface that bundles content from various streaming services. This should save users from having to browse through the separate libraries of streaming services to select films and series. Netflix and Disney+ are among the services to be supported.
The rumored price is particularly noteworthy: According to The Verge, the Sonos streaming box could cost between 200 and 400 US dollars. This would put the Sonos streamer at least in the same price range as the current Apple TV Box 4K.
Streaming box as an HDMI switch
According to The Verge, the interface of the Sonos box with the code name Pinewood can also be controlled via integrated voice commands. Alternatively, you can use a classic remote control with shortcuts to various streaming services – It remains to be seen how this fits in with the intention to bundle all streaming services in a common interface.
The Sonos Box is also intended to function as an HDMI switch, which can be used to connect external HDMI devices such as games consoles to the TV. If you own a Sonos soundbar, you can connect it wirelessly to the box. According to The Verge, this could prevent sound problems that could occur when connecting the soundbar directly to the TV – such as delays and stuttering.

The streaming device from Sonos should open up additional options for configuring the home theater, reports The Verge. For example, it should be possible to install two Era speakers as dedicated front channels. However, the Sonos streaming box does not appear to have its own built-in speakers.
It is not known when the Sonos streaming box will be launched on the market. The company recently parted ways with its CEO and other high-ranking managers after a newly released Sonos app was heavily criticized by users.
