Less than two weeks until the election: The Wahl-O-Mat is now online

17 days before the Bundestag elections, the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) launched the latest “Wahl-O-Mat” online today, Thursday. Using 38 theses, voters can find out which political parties' election platforms are most in line with their personal convictions. To do this, those responsible interviewed the parties themselves and extensively checked their announcements. Partly due to the short preparation time, the Wahl-O-Mat will be available for fewer days this time than in 2021, for example, when the tool set a usage record with over 21 million hits.

Who suits me best?

To carry out the survey, you can access the Wahl-O-Mat online or use one of the associated apps for Android and iOS. The political theses are then queried one after the other, and you can agree, disagree, take a neutral position or skip them. Finally, some topics can be given a higher weighting, which means they are scored twice in the evaluation. At the end, this evaluation then shows which political viewpoints of which parties running in the Bundestag elections best match your own political viewpoints.

The bpb now hopes that in the next two weeks, “people all over our country will once again be saying: “Have you played the Wahl-O-Mat yet?”, says its President Thomas Krüger: “The Wahl-O-Mat is an indispensable tool for political orientation, not least considering the early elections in 2025.” The tool has been around for more than 20 years, saving millions of eligible voters from having to read the election manifestos before federal, state and European elections. In total, the bpb has counted more than 130 million views since 2002. Thanks to this success, the tool is no longer the only one of its kind; there are now numerous alternatives.
