WhatsApp introduces new chat designs

Significantly enhanced chat designs are now available in the WhatsApp messenger. The company is responding to user requests with this change, teilte WhatsApp in a blog post. The new function will be rolled out with an update for both Android and iOS devices. It will be introduced gradually and could take a few weeks.

Users were already able to select their own background images in the app beforehand. However, the new chat designs are intended to enable even greater customization and provide users with more templates. The new designs can be found in the app settings under Chats and there under Default chat design. The design can also be changed for individual contacts. To do this on iOS, tap on the name of the person you are chatting with in the navigation bar and select Chat design. On Android devices, you can access the settings via the three-dot menu.

More setting options for users

Chat designs are only configured for yourself, i.e. the other party cannot see the selected design. The setting is also possible for channels.

A large number of preset chat designs are available in the selection dialog, either with a plain background or a background image. The chat bubbles are also available in different colors. If you wish, you can also change the backgrounds and colors to suit your individual preferences. A large number of backgrounds are available for this purpose. Users can also select their own motifs from their photos.

With the customizable chat designs, users can also escape the standard WhatsApp look to a certain extent. In May 2024, the messenger developer rolled out an update that added noticeably more shades of green to the design. The WhatsApp designers made this change after a lengthy selection process.
