Microsoft: Clipchamp video editor gets dark and light mode and timestamps
Microsoft continues to work on the Clipchamp video editor. More professional functions are also moving in, such as timestamps and grouping.

The video editor Clipchamp is provided with additional useful functions by Microsoft. These include the grouping of video parts, timestamps and the offer of a light and dark mode.
In a blog post, Microsoft explains that the dark and light modes can be set in the "Settings" – "General". This should meet the preferences of users and be helpful if they work either during the day or at night. By default, Clipchamp adopts the system default which mode is currently active.
Component grouping
Video sequences can be grouped together with music, texts and effects in a track element. While grouping previously left the elements displayed as they were, Clipchamp now simplifies the layout. This means that sections or chapters can be created in a video and moved around in the video as required –, with all components remaining correctly in place. A thumbnail shows the number of elements in a group and their type. The visible elements can still be edited or deleted. The function can be used simply by selecting the individual elements and choosing the "Group" option.

Clipchamp now also allows you to work with timestamps for more precise video editing. While the mouse position on the timeline shows the current time in the video, the left clip boundary shows the start time of the element and the right boundary shows the clip duration.
The developers have simplified the user interface somewhat. Changes to the way you collapse the sidebar and timeline, zoom in and out of the timeline, use full-screen playback, undo or redo actions, change the aspect ratio of a video or add AI subtitles have been changed to make them simpler and more beginner-friendly.
Anyone using Clipchamp with a private account should be able to use the new version from February – it is already available on our test computers. The software can be downloaded and installed free of charge (with possible in-app purchases) from the Microsoft Store. It will be available for "work accounts" in Microsoft 365 from March.
