Rainbow ice cream and dogs wrapped in US flags: The pictures of the week
This week, our gallery photographers are once again capturing a wide range of motifs – from ice stars to dogs in US flags and impressive nature.

Everything revolves around motifs that are particularly fascinating, sometimes even bizarre or absurd. They range from unique animal encounters with seagulls to unusual refractions of light and social criticism. Nature is also captured in a variety of ways in impressive snapshots.
Secret in the ice

The sunlight reveals fascinating structures on a sheet of ice that glow in iridescent rainbow colors. Could there be a primeval secret hidden in the ice? Perhaps a perfectly preserved dinosaur? The truth, however, is far less spectacular: "Sometimes ice sheets with unusual patterns form in our rain barrel. The sunlight was refracted through a prism and set the structures in scene in a picturesque way," explains Rudolf Wildgruber.
Antelope Canyon III

The famous canyon in Arizona is impressively staged in this picture – its curved, narrow and orange-colored corridors appear almost surreal. This third work in the series by totalstranger, which captures the nature of the USA, is entitled "Antelope Canyon III". The canyon is one of the country's most popular tourist attractions and a sought-after motif for photographers.
Fisherman's Friends

Seagulls gather around a fisherman, almost as if they were keeping him company – Fishermans Friends. "The photo was taken very early one morning at the port of Essaouira, Morocco," recalls Joachim Kopatzki. "To get some motion blur in the flying seagulls, I chose a longer exposure time and took continuous shots."
What the hell is ...?

A dog, wrapped in a dress with the pattern of the American flag, sits at a terminus and seems to be waiting for something or someone. "What the hell is...?" Katja Gehrung might also think at this unusual sight. The scene seems bizarre and hints at subtle social criticism of the USA.
Movement helps

Two deer cross a wintry landscape – because movement helps and keeps you warm. Their brown fur stands out clearly against the barren, bluish shimmering winter landscape. The scene, captured by image0815, radiates a special calm, and the silence seems almost audible as you look at the picture.
Sailboat at sunrise

A sailing boat at sunrise heads directly towards the radiant sun. The intense red tones of the morning light color the entire sky and transform the ship into a striking silhouette. Stephan Strange succeeds in capturing this unique moment impressively.
MusterDerNaturBlau

An extraordinary shot of a maiden in the green, whose branching leaves look like protective thorns in this picture. The targeted post-processing creates a fascinating motif. The photographer Apelkuchen gives his work the title "MusterDerNaturBlau".
