Google wants to improve its safe browsing approach to make websites and downloads safer. The analysis of threats from the Internet is now to warn users even more effectively on an AI basis using the Large Language Model (LLM).
Better protection thanks to AI?
The protection enhancement, which was announced at the end of last year, is now live. However, if you want to use the security feature in the web browser, you have to activate it manually.
Among other things, the safe browsing approach analyzes fraudulent websites and warns users before they visit that cyber criminals can copy personal data on such sites. Google states that the AI-based variant is intended to improve the detection rate, among other things.
It is not yet known exactly how the new methods work. At the very least, the developers state that the "Advanced Safe Browsing" option in Chrome now analyzes more data from websites so that the web browser also displays a warning for phishing sites not previously known to Google. There is also talk of "extensive scans for suspicious downloads".

According to Google, URLs of visited websites, page content and downloads are sent to the Safe Browsing servers for analysis. It is not clear from the information available so far whether this is done in anonymized form. Google assures that the new AI approach should not slow down browsing or the PC.
Activate AI protection
The AI-based protection mechanisms are not active by default. You can activate the "Advanced Safe Browsing" option in the Chrome options under "Privacy and Security/Security" (see screenshot).
