The marina is the first part of the ribbon city The Line to be completed. The Line is a 170-kilometer-long city that is to be built in the Saudi Arabian desert. A manager has announced the details.
Hidden Marina is the name of the first construction phase of the city. It is to be 2.5 kilometers long and consist of three interconnected modules, each 800 meters long. This was announced by Denis Hickey, Head of Development of the Neom settlement project, at an event organized by the Public Investment Fund in the capital Riyadh, as reported by the Saudi Gazette newspaper.

Like the entire city, the construction section will only be 200 meters wide and 500 meters high. In addition to the port, apartments, hotels, commercial space, schools, police and fire stations are to be built on an area of 21 square kilometers – in other words, all the infrastructure needed to supply a city, said Hickey. An area of 21 square kilometers is available for this purpose. 200,000 people are to live in the construction phase.
Cruise ships are to dock in the port
The harbor will be large enough to accommodate not only mega yachts, but also cruise ships. It will be located within the city's mirrored walls, hence the name Hidden Marine. A soccer stadium is to be built on the top floor of the construction phase.
The Line is to be built in the northwest of Saudi Arabia. The city begins at the exit of the Gulf of Aqaba and is to extend 170 kilometers inland. It will be only 200 meters wide and 500 meters high. The outer walls are to be mirrored.

When the ribbon city is finished, nine million people will live there. It will be a city without roads and cars. Instead, the building sections will be designed in such a way that residents will be able to reach all everyday facilities on foot in five minutes.
From one end to the other in 20 minutes
A high-speed transport system will be available in the underground beneath the city, the so-called Spine Layer, which will transport passengers from one end of the line to the other in 20 minutes.
The city is to be self-sufficient. This means that it will also supply itself with energy from renewable sources such as wind and sun. Cooling is to be passive: The city is to be open at the top so that air can escape. The roofs of the buildings are to be green.
The Line is part of the Neom settlement project, which comprises several projects in the northwest of the country, including the luxury holiday island of Sindalah, which was inaugurated last year. Neom is part of Saudi Vision 2030, a concept to restructure the economy in order to become independent of oil.
The Line is controversial
The Line project is highly controversial. The inhabitants of the region were forcibly relocated. The police took violent action against opponents, people were arrested and one died. Scientists also see The Line, with its mirrored outer walls, as a danger to the environment, for example for migratory birds. The Line is being built on an important bird migration route.

Work on the foundations of The Line has already been underway for some time. The Hidden Marina section is due to be completed by 2030 and the stadium in 2032, where matches of the Men's World Cup, which will be held in Saudi Arabia in 2034, are to be staged.
