Just under a week before the Bundestag elections, the Federal Agency for Civic Education's “Wahl-O-Mat” has broken its previous usage record from 2021. This was made public by the bpb on Bluesky. In total, the decision-making aid for voters has already been accessed 21 million times, compared to 17.3 million at the same time before the last Bundestag election. At the same time, the tool was available for a shorter period this time due to the short preparation time and reached the record number of views in just 11 days. In 2021, the service took the full 24 days.

With the Wahl-O-Mat, interested parties can check which political parties' election platforms are most in line with their personal convictions. To do this, those responsible interviewed the parties themselves and extensively checked their announcements. The tool can be accessed online or used via one of the associated apps for Android and iOS. The political theses are then queried one after the other, and you can agree with them, reject them, take a neutral stance or skip them. Finally, some topics can be given a higher weighting, which means that they are scored twice in the evaluation.

The increasingly popular service offered by the Federal Agency has been around for more than 20 years. It saves millions of eligible voters from having to read the election programs before federal, state and European elections. The bpb calls it an “indispensable tool for political orientation”; in total, more than 150 million views have been counted since 2002. This success is one of the reasons why there are now numerous alternatives that provide a different basis for comparing one's own convictions with the parties standing for election.
