The American software company Oracle has extended support for its version 19c database by a total of five years until December 31, 2029. This is according to an official company document. After the regular support expires, customers can purchase a support extension for a further three years, which runs until the end of 2032. Corporate customers who have concluded a volume license agreement (ULA) with Oracle will also receive extended support.
More time to switch
Oracle 19c is a long-term release with long support periods. For the release, the software company planned for regular support to end in April 2024 and extended support until April 2027. Oracle already extended the regular support period by two years until April 2026 in 2023. With the first extension of free support, Oracle wanted to give its customers more time to switch to the current database version 23ai.
Oracle 23ai was released in 2023 as version 23c, but was renamed a year later due to its AI functions. It includes AI-based vector search, retrieval augmented generation and queries in natural language. Like database version 19c, Oracle 23ai is a long-term release. According to the company, free support is scheduled to end at the end of 2031. The exact end of extended support has not yet been determined. However, it is scheduled to end at least three years later, i.e. at the end of 2034 at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Oracle 21c is a so-called innovation release for which the software company does not offer a support extension. The regular support period ends on July 31, 2027. Oracle recommends that customers operating databases of version 18c upgrade directly to 19c, while users of versions 11.2 and 12.1 must first upgrade to the latest minor release before moving to 19c. An upgrade to Oracle 23ai can be carried out for all database versions from 19c onwards.
