After price reduction: Is Playstation VR 2 now more worthwhile than Quest 3(S)?
Playstation VR 2 is now priced between Quest 3S and Quest 3. Which VR headset is better?

Playstation VR 2 (starting from 333 €) is reduced until the beginning of 2025, with or without Sony's exclusive VR title "Horizon Call of the Mountain". Previously, the device cost 600 euros or 650 euros (with "Horizon Call of the Mountain").
Thanks to this big Christmas discount, Sony's VR headset is now priced between the Quest 3S (starting from 245,95 €) and Quest 3 (starting from 499 €). Does this make it a real alternative to Quest headsets? We'll find out in the next sections.
Buy Playstation VR 2 or Quest 3(S)?
First things first: Playstation VR 2 requires a Playstation 5 (Pro) or alternatively a gaming PC if you want to access VR games on Steam. Quest 3(S), on the other hand, has all the technology integrated. If you want to use PS VR 2 on a computer instead, you also need to purchase Sony's PC adapter (cost: 60 euros). If not supported or available on the PC, a Bluetooth adapter is also required to connect the PSVR 2 controllers to the PC.
Another important point that is likely to play a role for many newcomers: Playstation VR 2 is wired, which somewhat restricts freedom of movement when playing. In addition, the VR headset from Sony cannot be easily used in another room or taken to a friend's house due to the console or PC connection. With Meta Quest, on the other hand, you can play both natively and wirelessly on a PC.
A selling point for Quest 3(S) that should not be underestimated is its support for mixed reality and hand tracking, two pioneering technologies that are currently changing the way headsets are used and immersive games are experienced. The Playstation VR 2 offers nothing comparable.
The range of software on Meta Quest is also significantly larger and, above all, more varied, while the PSVR 2 scores in terms of graphics and delivers visual highlights in some games.
Meta Quest 3S is the most versatile headset with the best price-performance ratio at the moment – unless you are primarily looking for a VR headset that you can use on your PS5 or gaming PC.

- Some games are graphically much more elaborate and beautiful
- Exclusive AAA games and high-quality VR modes: "Horizon Call of the Mountain", "Synapse", "Gran Turismo 7", "Resident Evil 4", "Resident Evil Village", "No Man's Sky"
- Supports eye-tracking (only on PS5 / PS5 Pro), which makes some games more beautiful and enables unique game mechanics
- High-contrast OLED display and HDR (the latter only with PS5 and PS5 Pro)
- Headset and controller offer great haptic effects
- Relatively large VR headset and large controllers
- Many VR games in the PS Store are Quest ports without significant PS5 optimization
- Outdated lenses (small sweet spot, weak edge-to-edge clarity)
- Mura veil and Sony's reprojection technology can interfere in some VR games
- Eye tracking is not supported by many VR titles
- Many of the best PSVR 2 features do not work on PC
- Sony is hardly investing any more in Playstation VR 2

- Larger and more diverse range of games, movies, experiences and apps
- Exclusive AAA games include: "Asgard's Wrath 2","Assassin's Creed Nexus VR", "Batman: Arkham Shadow", "Resident Evil 4"

- Supports hand tracking for controllerless games and headset use
- Meta continues to invest heavily in VR
- Great lenses with sharp image (only applies to Quest 3)
- Ringless controllers
- Graphics sometimes significantly weaker compared to certain PSVR 2 titles
- LC display with poor black levels
- Outdated lenses (small sweet spot, poor edge-to-edge clarity) (only applies to Quest 3S)
- Battery life of 2 to 3 hours
