In October 2024, Overland-Tandberg, a company specializing in backup and archiving, announced a strategic realignment. It was giving up its LTO magnetic tape archive systems business and wanted to focus on the RDX backup system. At the time, the company stated that it had "initiated restructuring plans for its subsidiaries, including Tandberg Data GmbH and Overland Storage, Inc.".

In November 2024, however, Tandberg Data GmbH filed for insolvency with the responsible district court in Dortmund; the company was liquidated in January 2025.

The editorial team of heise online has now received a letter from the US company Overland-Tandberg to its customers, according to which the company's operations have been completely discontinued since February 20, 2025. The sale of all products has ended immediately, and orders that have already been received will no longer be processed. The company has not yet responded to any queries.

For repairs to tape archive systems, Overland-Tandberg's management refers customers to the service providers Stortrec and MagStor.

There are still some online retailers selling RDX removable drives and the corresponding storage media (Quikstor cartridges). Anyone currently using RDX will have to take care of replacements.
