"Welcome to the Colony": THQ Nordic has released a demo for the upcoming role-playing remake of "Gothic 1" on Steam. It includes a stand-alone prologue from the eyes of an interim character named Nyras, writes THQ Nordic in the demo description. Those who have played the original may still know Nyras as a minor character.
The demo of "Gothic 1 Remake" is a separate game section that will probably not be included in the main game. Instead, it is intended to set the mood for the story and show off the game systems. The demo of "Gothic 1 Remake" is free and can be downloaded and played at any time – either on Steam or on GOG.
THQ Nordic promises a short quest that provides an overview of what to expect in the game. Players can talk to other prisoners, fight their first battles and even uncover secrets, according to the description. The demo takes place before the arrival of the nameless hero in the prison colony, who you will control again in the main game.
Already the second demo
"Gothic 1 Remake" has been in development for several years. The demo now released is already the second: THQ Nordic used the first demo to test whether there was any interest in a remake of Piranha Bytes' classic role-playing game. The version released in 2019 was a very early prototype, while the current demo reflects years of development work by Spanish studio Alkimia.
The demo is well received on Steam – currently 79 percent of 2000 reviewers recommend downloading it. Meanwhile, the complete remake of "Gothic" does not yet have a release date; the developers are only aiming for 2025.
