LG will be launching numerous new 21:9 monitors with its own WOLED panels from April 2025. The two 44.5-inch models Ultragear 45GX950A and Ultragear 45GX990A are particularly interesting from a technical perspective. They use a new WOLED panel that displays 5120 × 2160 pixels and thus achieves a pixel density of almost 125 pixels per inch (ppi) – almost 50 percent more than the previous models with 3440 × 1440 pixels.

WOLED is named after the white sub-pixels that increase the luminosity. LG uses the newer subpixel layout in the 44.5-inch display, in which red, green, white and blue (RGWB) color stripes are lined up. Unlike the previous RWBG generation, text does not show any noticeable color fringing. Only the DCI-P3 color coverage suffers from the white subpixels – LG states a minimum coverage of 94 percent.

Both the 45GX950A and the 45GX990A display 165 hertz. This is more suitable for the masses than 240 Hertz, which is to follow later: 165 Hertz with 10 bits per color channel also works with Display Stream Compression (DSC) via Displayport 1.4. 240 Hertz requires Displayport 2.1 including DSC – which would require a current Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 or AMD Radeon RX 7000.

LG recently presented the new OLED monitors at a roadshow in Frankfurt am Main.

The Ultragear 45GX990A is the new ultra-wide top model from LG. The manufacturer has taken inspiration from Corsair's Xeneon Flex: The display can be curved in different ways to suit your taste, from a tight 900R radius to a straight alignment. With LG, this is motorized at the touch of a button. LG uses the same panel in the Ultragear 45GX950A, but with a fixed 800R curvature without a motor.

Both models have two HDMI 2.1 ports, a Displayport 2.1 and a USB-C port that transmits a Displayport signal and can charge a connected device with 90 watts.

LG pays dearly for its OLED monitors: The top model 45GX990A carries a recommended retail price of 2499 euros. The 45GX950A costs 1999 euros.

For cheaper devices, LG continues to rely primarily on IPS displays, often with a diagonal of 27 inches. LG will also be launching more models with an integrated ARM processor running its own webOS. This allows users to start streaming services such as Netflix without an external player. For example, the 38.5-inch OLED 39GS95QE will become the 39GX90SA.

LG's 2025 monitor generation comes in a new design. The variants with webOS appear in a white housing.

The older OLED models are now available from 550 euros.
