Microsoft is launching its chatbot Copilot (formerly Bing Chat) as an application in the App Store for MacOS. This is already available in the USA and Canada, with other countries expected to follow soon. So far, MacOS users can use the chatbot free of charge in web browsers and, for a fee, in the data company's Office applications.

Microsoft Copilot drafts and understands texts, translates them, generates images on request and can evaluate PDF documents or YouTube videos, for example. It is based on technology from Microsoft partner OpenAI (GPT, Dall-E) and Microsoft itself. The app makes it possible to save the history of the interaction and to personalize the output, i.e. to tailor it to the respective user.

MacOS 14 or later and a device with an Apple CPU from M1 are required to install the app. In North America, the application is designated as suitable for users aged twelve and over.
