Smartphone manufacturer Realme wants to make cameras superfluous: At the MWC, the Chinese manufacturer is showcasing a smartphone with a connection for interchangeable lenses and two matching lenses. However, the device is still a prototype. In contrast, the Realme 14 Pro+ with a back that changes color depending on the temperature is ready for series production.
The Realme concept phone is equipped with three sensors, but only two of them have a lens in front of them. The third chip, a type 1-inch sensor, is only covered by a protective glass. Photos can only be taken with it if an interchangeable lens is attached. At the MWC, the manufacturer showed two lenses that shoot photos at a focal length of 73 mm and 234 mm (according to KB).
Realme praises the 73 mm lens for its creamy bokeh. During a demonstration at the Realme stand, the 234 mm lens took significantly more vivid and sharper photos than the telephoto lens of an iPhone 16 Pro – used for comparison, although the Realme lens alone probably weighs more than the iPhone. Both lenses shown have an open aperture of f/1.8. They make contact with the smartphone via an L-mount connection. However, a spokesperson on site did not want to confirm whether this means that the smartphone can communicate with all lenses with an L-mount connection. The Realme lenses have been specially developed for the smartphone.

Realme also has a production-ready smartphone on show at the MWC: the 14 Pro+. A special feature of the top-of-the-range smartphone is that its back changes color depending on the temperature. At room temperature, it has a white back, which turns slightly bluish as soon as it is stored in a cooler environment. There is a triple camera on the back, the showpiece being the periscope telephoto camera. The SoC is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen3. Realme uses a 6.8-inch 120 Hz OLED display. The housing is protected against water and dust in accordance with IP69. Realme did not reveal how long the smartphone will be supplied with updates. The 14 Pro+ costs 530 euros with 8/256 GB of memory and 580 euros with 12/512 GB.
