Microsoft updates Copilot app: New user interface

Microsoft has started to distribute an updated version of the Copilot app for Windows. The changes in the Insider preview version seem rather small, but the app has obviously been redesigned.

Microsoft announced the new version in a blog post. The Insider version will be distributed via the Microsoft Store. It is now a native XAML app. Extensible Application Markup Language (XAML) is the state of the art at Microsoft for defining and designing user interfaces for apps. In principle, this leads to a new user interface. Microsoft emphasizes that it is now particularly easy to start a new conversation and view the conversation history.

Copilot recognizes surroundings

Copilot is now also more practical. By recognizing which operating system, the app is running on, the assistant can provide tailored responses to queries relating to specific tasks. The authors cite the example of asking Copilot how to set up a Bluetooth headset or the request to activate dark mode. Some of these tasks may differ from one operating system version to another.

As a reminder of how the app can be called up easily, Microsoft once again mentions the key combination “Alt” and “Space” at the same time – if it is not already occupied by something else, such as Microsoft Powertoys or other apps. On newer PCs, such as Copilot+ PCs, with the corresponding key on the keyboard, pressing the Copilot key is sufficient to start the app.

The Copilot update to version 1.25023.101.0 will be rolled out gradually via all Microsoft Insider channels. Not all Insiders will therefore receive immediate access.

Development of the Copilot app is progressing steadily. In December, Microsoft converted the Copilot app, which had previously only been available as a Progressive Web App (PWA), to native code. The first interface still looked a little bare – This is now changing with the update.
