The AI-supported terminal application Warp is now available for Windows. It supports both the x64 and ARM versions of the operating system. Warp can be used with Windows PowerShell, Subsystem for Linux and Git Bash. The terminal has an AI agent and collaboration functions. At the same time as the release for Windows, the tool received an update that allows the AI to analyze existing repositories.
Git code serves as a context for AI
The AI tool integrated in Warp is designed to support users in software development. It consists of different parts. Based on previous input and output, as well as error messages, the so-called Active AI suggests possible improvements to users. The AI agent, on the other hand, answers natural language questions, executes commands or explains output. With the update, users can link the AI agent to their Git repository so that it uses the code stored there as a context for future queries.
The new version also allows users to create their own reminders that the AI agent can access as a context. This allows users to save their preferences permanently, for example if they prefer Graphite to Git. By default, Warp uses Claude 3.5 Sonnet from Anthropic for its AI agent. Alternatively, Claude 3.5 Haiku or OpenAI GPT-4o can be selected. Enterprise customers can integrate their language model into Warp. The AI terminal also has a function for voice commands. For this, Warp relies on the speech-to-text software Wispr Flow. A comprehensive voice chat function is still missing.
Session sharing for collaborative development
Warp users can share their terminal session with other users for collaborative development. So far, shared sessions have been limited to the execution of shell commands. AI suggestions or interactions with the AI agent cannot currently be shared. Objects can also be saved in a personal area in the Warp Drive. The objects include workflows, i.e., ready-made commands with parameters. On the other hand, there are notebooks that can contain documentation in Markdown and executable code blocks. Users can also create teams there and share their content with team members.

In addition to the edition for Windows 10 and 11, the terminal is also available for macOS from version 10.14 and Linux. Arch, Debian, and Red Hat packages as well as an AppImage are available for download for x64 and ARM systems. The free package allows users to use all the terminal's offline functions. In addition, there are 100 AI queries and 250 suggestions for the next command every month. The paid Pro subscription for 18 US dollars per month includes 1000 AI requests. In the Team package for 25 US dollars per month, there is no limit to the number of AI queries. Microsoft itself also has an AI-supported terminal with AI Shell.
