Microsoft has released version 0.89.0 of Powertoys for Windows. The most significant improvement is the support for automatic conversion of audio and video formats with the “Advanced Paste” function. However, the user interface for “winget” recently announced on X is not yet included.
The Powertoys developers highlight a number of improvements and corrections in the version announcement. At the forefront is the expansion of “Advanced Paste”, which can manipulate data in the clipboard with AI before storing it in a target application. It is now possible to convert audio to .mp3 and videos to .mp4, more precisely H.264 with AAC. You can store your key combinations for this.
Incorrectly updated context menus
Under Windows 11, it could happen that the context menu entries were not updated after updating the Powertoys. In particular, the Powertoys components Image Resize, File Locksmith, New+ and PowerRename were affected. Many smaller corrections can be found in the list of the version announcement. These include, for example, that a problem that did not work in the Copy-and-Paste and Drag-and-Drop service mode of Mouse Without Borders has been solved. “PowerLaucnher.exe” from Powertoys Run had prevented other MSI installers from creating shortcuts.

However, Powertoys users will still have to wait for a user interface for software management with “winget”. It could be integrated into the search function of Powertoys Run as an extension, apparently called “Search Winget” – at least visually, the announced Powertoys extension resembles this.
As usual, version 0.89.0 of Powertoys is available as an update directly with the update search in the program itself. There are also updated installation packages:
- Powertoys 0.89.0 (x64, user setup)
- Powertoys 0.89.0 (ARM64, user setup)
- Powertoys 0.89.0 (x64, system-wide setup)
- Powertoys 0.89.0 (ARM64, system-wide setup)
Version 0.88.0 of Powertoys, released at the end of January, had a new tool on board in addition to bug fixes. This is the “ZoomIt” magnification function, which the Powertoys have taken over from Sysinternals.
