Stable Audio Open can now generate sound effects and sounds in seconds on smartphones without an internet connection. To this end, Stability AI and Arm have optimized an AI model for cell phone CPUs. The Arm KleidiAI library and technologies from Stability AI were used for this.
The time required to generate audio was reduced from 240 to 8 seconds in one example. An Armv9 CPU was used for this. According to the press release from both companies, the further development should eliminate the need for powerful hardware in this application.
This makes Stable-Audio-Open the first application that can generate audio on a cell phone without an Internet connection, say those responsible. Other applications are still dependent on calculations in the cloud. Initially, however, the model is not freely available. It is unclear when and to what extent Stability AI and Arm will release the function for users.

Stability AI also says that this further development is just the beginning of the cooperation with Arm. The partnership is an important step towards optimizing the creation of high-quality media on mobile devices. This applies to image, video and 3D generation.
The open-source model Stable Audio Open was already presented in June 2024. It can be used to generate sound up to 47 seconds long from text prompts.
