Nvidia is suffering from the sell-out of its own high-end graphics cards from the GeForce 4000 series and the resulting poor availability. In the fourth quarter of 2024, Nvidia's market share among desktop graphics cards fell from 90 to 82 percent. Similarly, AMD's shot up from 10 to 17 percent.

Intel also reappeared in the overview by market observer Jon Peddie Research with a single percent. Previously, the manufacturer was still at 0% – the new Battlemage generation with the Arc B580 and B570 already surprised positively at the launch.

The overall market saw a slight upturn at the end of 2024, with sales rising from 8.1 million in the third quarter to 8.4 million in the fourth. However, the year-on-year comparison continues to look poor – A year ago, sales were 9.5 million, an increase of 13%.

If you convert the market shares, Nvidia sold just under 6.9 million desktop graphics cards, AMD a good 1.4 million and Intel just under 100,000. This is particularly pleasing for AMD, which has broken the million mark again after a dry spell.

Meanwhile, most desktop PCs are sold without an independent graphics card: according to Jon Peddie Research, a total of 22.5 million processors for desktop PCs were sold, i.e. 14.1 million without a graphics card. They are primarily intended for office computers, where the integrated graphics unit in the processors is sufficient for image output.

The market shares of the first two quarters of 2025 will be exciting. Graphics cards from the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 series are still not readily available. If AMD brings enough Radeon RX 9000s onto the market, further market shares are possible. The first test of the new Radeon generation was convincing.
