EclipseSource has released Theia AI, a new open-source framework designed to make it easier for developers to integrate AI functions into tools and IDEs. Theia AI is part of the Eclipse Theia platform. The company advertises that Theia AI offers comprehensive control over AI integration compared to other proprietary tools. Developers can decide for themselves which AI models they want to use and how they want to host them. The company recently introduced Theia Coder, an AI coding assistant in the Theia IDE.
Personalized AI agents
Theia AI offers a range of features designed to help developers create AI-native tools. First of all, it enables the flexible selection and integration of AI models. EclipseSource promises that users are free to decide whether they want to use cloud-based services, self-hosted software or local models.

With Theia AI, personalized AI agents can be developed that focus on specific specialist areas. These agents support users by providing automated workflows and dynamically adapting the context to provide precise assistance.
Integration and interactive AI chats
In addition, Theia AI enables the seamless integration of AI functions into existing tool infrastructures without losing control of data and integrations. Developers can thus expand and optimize their existing systems.
Interactive AI chats are another component of Theia AI. According to the blog post, these chats are designed to enable dynamic, multi-stage interactions in which agents guide users through complex workflows.
