Adata: "World's smallest external SSD with dual-interface interface"
The SSD SC730 is less than 4 cm short and can be connected to USB-A and USB-C via a slider. It is also sufficiently fast.

Adata's SSD SC730 is said to be the smallest external SSD in the world that integrates both USB Type A and USB Type C. Depending on which port is required, you have to move the side slider to the left or right. Both ports are hidden when positioned in the middle.
The SSD plastic housing has the dimensions of a thicker and slightly longer SD memory card: The SSD SC730 is just under 37 mm long, just under 24 mm wide and just under 10 mm high. According to Adata, it weighs 7.8 grams. There are two variants with 512 GB and one TByte of storage space.

Fast, but not high-end
As usual with external SSDs, Adata does not make any specific comments on the soldered chips. Experience has shown that these can change depending on which components the manufacturer can obtain cheaply. The components only have to achieve the promised performance.
This is not particularly difficult in the case of the SSD SC730: Adata promises sequential write and read transfer rates of 600 MByte per second. USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbit/s) is sufficient for full speed. On a Gen 1 connection (5 Gbit/s, formerly known as USB 3.0), the SSD should only be slightly slower.
According to the data sheet, the data carrier requires 4.5 watts (5 volts, 900 mA) under load, which should not be a problem, at least on USB 3.x ports.

Under 100 euros
Other (larger) USB SSDs manage up to 2 GByte/s. However, the SSD SC730 still seems fast, especially when compared to similarly sized USB sticks, especially as SSDs are generally better at maintaining speed.
So far, only the retailer Alza lists the SSD SC730 for pre-order. The 1 TByte version costs just under 92 euros, the 512 GByte version 54 euros. Other retailers should follow shortly. Adata and the retailer are remaining silent on the exact delivery date.
