Fritz! Smart Energy 250: AVM's smart home sensor measures power consumption
Mounted on an electricity meter, AVM's new sensor collects and sends consumption data, making load control easier for households with a PV system.
AVM's Fritz!Smart Energy 250 sensor, which was shown for the first time at the IFA 2024 trade fair stand, now measures energy consumption at suitable electricity meters.

Network technology company AVM is expanding its smart home range with accessories for energy monitoring. With the Fritz!Smart Energy 250 sensor, which was first shown at IFA 2024 and is now available, households can monitor and analyze how much electricity they consume. In the best-case scenario, they will uncover potential savings and reduce their costs.
The sensor is magnetically attached to the digital electricity meter. There it reads the energy data via infrared and sends it via DECT radio to a Fritz!Box WLAN router from the AVM range. The data can be viewed in the Fritz!App Smart Home smartphone application, in the Fritz!Box web interface and in the optional MyFritz!Net online service. The latter stores the information long-term. It is therefore still available there even if you delete the mobile app.
Load control for households with a PV system
If you want, you can analyze the consumption information according to different time intervals. Households that convert solar energy from photovoltaic systems into electricity and use it to charge electric cars or run energy-hungry appliances in the kitchen and laundry room should be able to draw useful conclusions from this. The results should help them to better manage their consumption.
AVM's smart home software provides suitable mechanisms for if-then rules. For example, a routine is conceivable in which a smart AVM adapter plug automatically activates the washing machine plugged into it as soon as the solar system generates more power than the home needs elsewhere at the same time.

Does not fit all electricity meters
The AVM electricity meter draws its power from two AA batteries or a source that is plugged into the sensor housing via a USB-C cable. The Fritz!Smart Energy 250 is compatible with most digital electricity meters commonly used in this country. AVM provides a list of exceptions and further installation information on the web.
All Fritz!Box models with a built-in DECT base station can be used as a switching center in the home network. Alternatively, the wireless modules of a Fritz!DECT Repeater 100 or a Fritz!Smart Gateway pass the data to the WLAN router. The sensor is available for 90 euros.
