Meta is adding more personalization features to its Threads social network, which was launched in 2023. Users can now add topics that interest them in their bio, permanently set their default feed when opening the app and restrict that only followers can reply to and quote their posts.
The ability to set the default feed has long been longed for by some users. Until now, Meta insisted that users should first see the algorithmic "For you" view, which contains posts from users you follow as well as a number of suggestions from the network as to who else you can follow. However, this annoyed a number of users, as some of these suggestions also contained many posts that they were not interested in at all and that were clearly advertising.
Settings against annoying posts
Instead, users can now permanently set to either see the follow feed first – or a user-defined feed that can be set when using the search function, for example. Meta announced this in a blog post.
The advanced functions, which can be used to restrict interactions with your own posts, also help to counteract disruptive influences. For example, users can tap on "Anyone can reply and quote" to open a menu where this can be set. In addition to all people, users can now also select that only their own followers can reply and quote. Other options are the reduction to profiles that you follow or users mentioned in the post. There is no exclusion of any interaction.
More political content
In future, users will be able to make their main areas of interest public by naming them in their profile. Meta is thus expanding the topic functions, which are intended to provide a kind of common thread. Anyone who writes a post will now also be shown suggestions for trending topics and thematically relevant content. The topics are also to be placed more prominently in the For You feed and, according to Meta, achieve more views on average.

There are also improvements to the video player, which should now be easier to use. For example, playing videos back and forth is more convenient than before.
Along with the changes, users should also find more political content in their feeds again. At the beginning of the year , Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that political topics would be less restricted by automatic filters and moderators in future.
