Of flamenco, gigantic moons and summer thunderstorms: pictures of the week
A traditional dance and a hare waiting for the night bus – Our gallery photographers present motifs ranging from the aesthetic to the humorous.

They couldn't be more different and yet each is an eye-catcher in its own right: this week's images include an airplane passing by a gigantic moon, a flamenco dancer during a passionate performance and a dramatic summer thunderstorm lighting up the night sky. But there is also some humor involved, this time in the form of two animals: a dog displaying seemingly human behavior and a hare patiently waiting for the bus.
Janina
(Image:Â Thomas Ruppel)
In the "Schärferaum - Creative space" in Bad Homburg, model Janina poses on a stool for photographer Thomas Ruppel. "As I usually do, I try to show the people in front of my camera with all their beauty and use a few headshots to create authentic expressions," he explains. The shot radiates a stylish but also melancholy mood.
Flamenco
(Image:Â Rantal)
"I was able to attend a rehearsal afternoon at the flamenco school in Freiburg. The artistic movements of the flamenco dancers were fascinating," recalls Rantal. The dancer elegantly swings the sleeves of her traditional dance dress, capturing the dynamics and movement convincingly in this picture.
rayas con cane
(Image:Â Klicker3D)
In this shot, which is classified as street photography, a dog crosses an empty crosswalk while shadows fall on the road from the left. The owner remains invisible, the leash the dog is wearing is barely recognizable. This humanizes the animal, making it seem as if it can march freely, happily and confidently through the city. A little piece of everyday humor. Klicker3D appropriately calls the picture"rayas con cane" ("rayas" is Spanish for "stripes", "cane" is Italian for "dog").
!Up2
(Image:Â mko800)
The spiral staircase seems to climb higher and higher, the perspective of the shot makes it appear infinite. In his photo series "!Up", mko800 captures several such staircases. In the shot "!Up2", our picture on Tuesday, the bright color scheme directs the focus to the middle of the picture and thus upwards in the staircase, while the dark underside of the staircase acts like a natural frame and reinforces this suction effect.
Waiting for the night bus by etherman
(Image:Â etherman)
The little hare sits on a meadow by the road in the evening."Waiting for the night bus", he may be thinking to himself. The blurred foreground and background draw the focus to the animal, while a gentle bokeh effect transforms the lights of a passing city bus into large-scale abstract circular shapes. Etherman captures the contrast between the urban and natural environment of the hare perfectly in his picture.
Into the distance
(Image:Â JĂĽrgen Plietz)
An airplane flies past a huge moon that dominates the sky, tracing a wide path into the distance. "You can see an A380. It regularly flies over my property on this route. This picture hasn't been edited much, just slightly enlarged," JĂĽrgen Plietz tells us. "I have been trying to photograph movements in front of the moon for many years. It's always a challenge, because the weather or the distance of the objects from the moon usually put a spanner in the works."
Flash
(Image:Â fritz pink)
A purple flash of lightning shines in this summer thunderstorm and gives fritz pink 's picture the name"Flash". The glowing red foreground and the black sky provide a perfect stage for the lightning and allow it to shine in its full intensity. The lantern at the edge of the picture provides the contrasting red light, while at the same time emphasizing the dreariness of the scene and giving the whole thing a somewhat eerie atmosphere.
