Windows 11: Update now possible despite "Asphalt 8" on 24H2, blocker removed

Anyone who installed the game "Asphalt 8" was not offered the update to Windows 11 24H2 by Microsoft. A Safeguard ID prevented this, as it caused problems with the game. Microsoft has now found a solution – Windows 11 24H2 is now also offered on such PCs and can now be installed.

As the developers write in the Windows Release Health Notes, the game "Asphalt 8 (Airborne)" could no longer respond while it was running or when an attempt was made to quit it. A restart of the game was necessary to get out of this exceptional software state. Microsoft has therefore set the Safeguard ID 52796746, which prevents the installation of the 24H2 update on devices with "Asphalt 8".

Windows 11: Update blocker removed

The blockade had been active since the end of September 2024, when the 24H2 update was released. Microsoft has now removed the blocker with the Safeguard ID. As a result, the 24H2 update can now be found and offered when searching with Windows Update, for example. IT admins can check the Windows Update for Business reports to see whether the ID 52796746 has led to blockages on managed computers.

The Windows 11 24H2 update caused trouble at times and still does for some programs. At the end of February, Microsoft even set up a new update blocker with the Safeguard ID 56211213. This ensures that the 24H2 update cannot be installed on machines with AutoCAD 2022 – newer versions such as AutoCAD 2023, 2024 or 2025 are not affected.

In mid-February, Microsoft had already removed a batch of Safeguard IDs that prevented the update to Windows 11 24H2. This affected certain Asus devices. However, games that support a certain High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode called "Auto HDR" also previously caused problems, which have since been resolved.
