Paramount+: Premium subscription with 4K streams soon in Germany too

Paramount+ is expanding its subscription offer in Germany: in addition to the Standard subscription, which was previously the only subscription available, there will be two further subscription levels in Germany, Austria and Switzerland over the course of the year, which are aimed at different target groups: Premium is aimed at streaming enthusiasts who like to watch in better quality. The basic subscription costs significantly less, but shows advertising.

The standard subscription remains untouched: Here you can stream in FullHD quality for 8 euros a month. The premium subscription is new from March 26: it costs 13 euros per month and unlocks 4K streams. Other benefits: Up to four instead of just two parallel streams and HDR10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for compatible content.

At the other end of the streaming spectrum is the new basic subscription, which will be available in the summer. It costs just EUR 6 per month and offers the same streaming quality as the standard subscription –, i.e. FullHD (1080p). Parallel streams are not possible with the basic subscription. Paramount also shows commercial breaks.

Terms of use changed

German Paramount+ customers have long been waiting to be able to watch the streaming service's content in 4K. The 4K subscription is already available in other countries. Figures from Paramount competitors such as Netflix show that even cheaper advertising subscriptions are well received by the streaming audience. Paramount+ is responding to this market trend with its tiered subscription system.

Paramount laid the foundation for the expansion of its subscription offer at the beginning of the year with a change to its terms of use. For the first time, this mentioned different types of subscriptions. Precautions to prevent streams from different households, such as Netflix and Disney+, are not included in the revised terms of use.
