Microsoft is giving us a little more insight into what new features are currently being developed for Windows 11 and what stage they are at. This should give admins, developers, insider testers and interested parties a better overview and provide early information on planned or expected features and their use.
Microsoft announces the Windows roadmap in a tech community blog post. According to this, many discussions with IT professionals expressed the desire for Microsoft to be more transparent about which functions will be delivered and when, so that their use can be better planned.
Windows roadmap on customer request
The Windows Roadmap was therefore created at the request of customers. Microsoft's developers list improvements and functions that are currently being tested in the Windows Insider Program, which are being distributed gradually and are generally available, i.e. distributed with the monthly non-security update and are immediately active.

The roadmap also provides information and instructions on how to access and use the new functions and improvements before they are activated by default in your own environments. The status of function development is regularly updated there. The roadmap also shows which changes are coming for which Windows version – with regard to release or Insider channels –. Filter options are also available for this.
"The Windows roadmap provides estimated release dates and descriptions of features to be released. All information is subject to change. If a feature or product is retired, this also leads to the deletion of the information on the roadmap website," explain the authors of the blog post.
The current status merely marks the beginning. At present, the roadmap is mainly concerned with Windows 11 clients, as this is where most of the improvements and functions are currently being developed. However, Microsoft would like to respond to feedback and suggestions and continue to adapt the roadmap to customer requirements. This also includes the inclusion of further areas and device types.
