Sahara dust, crystals and sunsets: The pictures of the week
Sahara dust colors the evening sky, glittering crystals shimmer in detail – This week, our gallery photographers once again show diversity.

Last week brought fascinating images, and it was not always immediately obvious what they were about: A shard of glass becomes the world of a tiny ladybug, in an impressive portrait barbed wire wraps around the head of a woman gazing intently into the camera, and a glorious sunset bathes the beach in intense light.
Broken World
(Image:Â actioreactio)
The close-up by actioreactio shows a ladybug crawling over a shard of glass. The staging conveys the impression that this shard of glass is the insect's entire world – a "broken world". The black background draws the eye to the action and emphasizes the scene.
Sahara dust
(Image:Â Tobias Hucker)
Sahara dust bathes the evening sky over Hamburg's Outer Alster lake in an impressive play of colors and creates a fascinating contrast between the glowing red sand and the deep blue sky. The skyline appears as a striking silhouette, impressively staged by Tobias Hucker.
Bismuth up close
(Image:Â bS_mr)
In this close-up, bismuth is shown up close. "It occurs as an accompanying metal in lead, copper and tin ores in bound form," bS_mr tells us. "If you melt it and let it cool down as slowly as possible, it crystallizes and forms these staircase-like structures that start to glow in rainbow colors when they tarnish."
Impact 2
(Image:Â Braveman1954)
Braveman1954 didn't let the rainy weather stop him from getting creative. "An infusion bag, a transparent water basin, three unleashed flash units with color foils and a lot of patience produced, among other things, the picture "Impact 2"," he reports. The structure in the water surface was created by the fact that the water basin is equipped with small prisms at the bottom and a flash unit fired through the basin from below."
The aesthetics of pain, the pain of aesthetics
(Image:Â Ivan im Abstrakten)
A woman looks directly into the camera in this black and white portrait. Barbed wire surrounds her face. Ivan im Abstrakten captures the tension between the aesthetics of pain and the pain of aesthetics. The intense gaze and the dramatic play of light and shadow lend the image a captivating expressiveness.
The passage of time
(Image:Â AenneWinter)
A breathtaking sunset on the beach, but the shot almost looks as if the person is waiting for something on an alien desert planet in front of a huge sun. The sight is thought-provoking, for example about the passage of time. Aenne Winter captures this impressive moment in which the bright sunlight outshines everything else in intense colors.
Mandarin duck with reflection
(Image:Â Pham Nuwem)
A duck swims calmly across the water, its colorful plumage standing out wonderfully against the neutral surroundings. The reflection in the water draws even more attention to the animal. Pham Nuwem masterfully captures the mandarin duck with its reflection on the water.
