Four months late: Copilot+ arrives for AMD and Intel systems
Copilot+ notebooks with Ryzen AI 300 and Core Ultra 200V get new AI functions, including an image generator in Paint.

Microsoft is finally releasing some AI functions for notebooks with AMD and Intel processors. These include Image Creator in Paint and Restyle Image in the photo viewer. The former is an AI image generator that works with written prompts. Restyle Image modifies an existing image file using a text prompt. For example, a vacation photo can be transformed into an image in the style of an oil painting – if the technology works reliably.
Alternatively, there is the Cocreator, which creates AI images based on a drawing in Paint. A style for the final image can be specified via a text prompt.

Live Captions provide real-time captions for meetings, videos, or livestreams. The function should also be able to translate over 40 languages. So far, however, it only works for English – German, for example, can be translated into English, but English cannot be translated into German. In general, Microsoft has so far concentrated on English – Image prompts, for example, are said to work most reliably in this language. In second place is apparently Chinese, which Snapdragon X notebooks now support in translations.
Ryzen AI 300 and Core Ultra 200V come on board
A processor with a powerful integrated AI unit is required to run the functions locally. This has been working with Qualcomm Snapdragon X CPUs since summer 2024. Now AMD's Ryzen AI 300 and Intel's Core Ultra 200V (Lunar Lake) are following suit. This currently mainly includes Copilot+-certified notebooks. Otherwise, there are only a handful of mini PCs with such processors. AMD's Ryzen 9000 desktop CPUs have no AI unit at all, and Intel's Core Ultra 200S (Arrow Lake) only has a very weak one.

Microsoft wants to distribute the necessary update in stages. If you don't want to wait, you can manually initiate an update search under Settings > Windows Update. Meanwhile, Microsoft is late with the introduction – The company originally announced corresponding updates for AMD and Intel systems for November 2024.
Meanwhile, a new function is only coming to Snapdragon X devices for now: Voice Access with improved AI support. This allows Windows 11 to be controlled using more flexible voice commands than was previously possible. A corresponding update for AMD and Intel systems will follow later in the year.
