Powertoys 0.90: Command palette allows quick program start
Microsoft has released version 0.90.0 of the Windows Powertoys. The "Command Palette" function is new.

The developers at Microsoft have released version 0.90 of the powerful Powertoys tool collection. The new version also includes a new function, the command palette.

The programmers see the "Command Palette" module as the evolutionary stage of Powertoys Run. It should be easier to expand and is a quick starter with a comprehensive display and additional functions. The module should not sacrifice any performance and should make it possible to start everything simply by pressing the Windows key, Alt and space bar. Entering the first few letters of the program you are looking for is enough to quickly narrow down the matching programs and start them by selecting them with the cursor keys or by narrowing them down to just one option by pressing the Enter key. This at least saves you having to go to the Start menu, where you can also search by entering the app name, and offers more options.
Other minor corrections and improvements
As usual, the developers have also corrected several minor errors and improved functions. The color picker has been changed from Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) to .Net WPF, which improves themes and consistency in different modes.

Files can now be deleted directly from the preview (Peek), making file management more efficient. The New+ function for creating predefined files and directories has also received support for variables in template file names, so that they can use date or environment variables for customizations, for example.
The update can be triggered directly in the Powertoys. The current software version can be found under "General". Clicking on the "Check for updates" button to the right of this does exactly what has been announced. If an update is available, the dialog also offers to install it.

Microsoft's developers released Powertoys 0.89 at the beginning of March. As the most outstanding improvement, they had added audio and video transcoding to the "Advanced Paste" function.
