Meta's Ray-Ban glasses are to be released this year in a new, more expensive and enhanced version. Hidden under the code name Hypernova are glasses with an integrated display. According to Bloomberg, they will cost more than 1000 US dollars. The previous Meta Ray-Bans cost from 329 euros in Germany.
Until now, the glasses have been able to see what the wearer sees via a camera. Thanks to Meta AI and integrated headphones, you can also talk to them about what you see and ask questions about it. This already works in the USA at least, but Meta AI is still only available to a limited extent in the EU. The new display will then be able to show images and photos, for example. In addition to the touchpoints on the glasses frame, it should also be possible to control them using hand gestures. It is possible that the new glasses will also be sold with the wristbands that were already shown at the presentation of the Orion AR glasses.

Bloomberg reports that the display will only be visible at the bottom edge of the right lens and will be best seen when looking down. The home screen is said to resemble that of the Meta Quest.
AI glasses from Meta, OpenAI, Google, and Snap
The Hypernova project is therefore not yet a genuine pair of augmented reality glasses. Meta presented such glasses at its own Connect 2024 trade fair. However, the Orion is still a prototype that only a few people have been allowed to test.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg sees smart glasses as a new device category that will prevail in the future. He is not alone in this assumption. There are a number of smart glasses on the market, with more or fewer functions. The major AI providers are also all working on AI glasses – including OpenAI and Google. Snap's AR glasses are already on the market; the Spectacles may not yet boast a lot of AIs, but they are well advanced in the field of AR. The glasses can already be subscribed to as a developer model via a program.
