Wifislax has been released in version 4.0. The live Linux distribution based on Slackware is designed to support administrators in checking wireless network connections in companies. It includes a variety of security and forensic applications as well as the integration of unofficial network drivers into the Linux kernel. In this way, the developers want to ensure compatibility with numerous network cards.
Wifislax can run OpenSSL 3
Because the distribution is based on the current branch of Slackware, Wifislax 4.0 now supports the WLAN security standard WPA 3 and the open source SSL and TLS implementation OpenSSL 3. Wifislax also receives the latest version of the desktop environment Xfce. For KDE, however, there is no upgrade to Plasma 6. Instead, Wifislax 4.0 includes the final version of Plasma 5. The developers of Wifislax have also updated the libraries and network drivers and tools. Some of these were re-included in the distribution as forks for Python 3.
The network applications in Wifislax include Aircrack-ng. The software package is used by administrators to analyze vulnerabilities in wireless networks and can calculate WPA2 keys. Bully can also be used to carry out brute force attacks on the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) of access points. Simultaneous attacks on networks with different encryption are possible with the supplied Wifite application. Wireshark is also included in the Linux system. This tool can be used to record and examine data traffic in networks in order to identify potential problems.

All new features in version 4.0 can be found in the release announcement. The distribution with the current Linux kernel 6.14 is available as a live image for AMD64 systems. Installation from the live environment is also possible. Because the current branch of Slackware receives daily updates, the developers advise against installing future updates on Wifislax installations. Most recently, the emergency distribution for system recovery SystemRescue received an update to version 12.00. With it came support for the copy-on-write file system bcachefs.
